Biography

Nigel Bryant was born in Bristol as the “greatest decade in the history of mankind” drew to a close. Espousing the dogma of punk from the age of 8 he eventually embraced a more eclectic musical sphere and moved to South London in the late 80s.

Fables recording session 1991His first musical role was as guitarist in The Fables from 1990-92, a 4-piece with a sound in debt to early REM and The Byrds. While half of The Fables splintered into infamous London punks, The Flying Medallions, he went off to write and record a large body of material throughout the 1990s both solo and in collaboration.

Carbon CMJ featured artistTowards the end of the 90s, Carbon was established as Nigel’s musical alias releasing the album “This Is Not Your City” on Sonic Imperfections in 2001. The Carbon sound was an amalgam of electric guitars and analogue synths. Carbon’s 2nd album “I’ve Lost It” was completed in 2003 but for now, remains unreleased. Throughout this period Nigel also played guitar with ray On where he met Matt Donovan, the drummer who would become a regular collaborator.
